What should I bring for the walking safari?
To make the most of your walk, please bring:
• Neutral-colored clothing (earthy tones like khaki, brown, beige, or navy)
• Comfortable walking shoes with ankle support
• Sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen
• Tick and insect repellent
• Water bottle (hydration pack provided in your Tsala Trails backpack)
• Personal medication (including EpiPen if applicable)
• Camera and binoculars (optional but recommended)
Avoid: Bright or white clothing (red, orange, yellow, fluorescent) that may attract unwanted attention from wildlife.
How safe is this walking safari?
Your safety is our top priority. Every walk is led by a qualified and armed Trails Guide, registered and certified to operate in Big 5 areas. While guides carry a firearm for safety, it is used only as a last resort. Groups are kept small to ensure personal attention and careful monitoring, and you’ll receive a thorough safety briefing before the walk covering bush behavior, animal encounters, and walking protocol. While walking safaris naturally include an element of adventure, Tsala Trails upholds strict safety standards to provide a calm, respectful, and secure experience in the heart of nature.
How many people can walk in a group for this safari?
To ensure a safe and immersive experience, Tsala Trails limits group sizes on walking safaris. Groups are typically small, with 4 to 8 participants, allowing for greater safety and more in-depth wildlife interpretation. Each walk is led by a certified Lead Trails Guide, providing personalized attention throughout the adventure. This small-group approach creates a quiet, respectful environment that enhances both safety and your connection to the wilderness.
