This six-day walking safari explores two distinct landscapes within Balule Game Reserve in the Greater Kruger. Walk the sandy plains and granite hills of the southern reserve, then journey north to the Olifants River for riverside trails, optional bush sleep-outs, and boat tours.
Balule is home to the Big Five, plus cheetah, wild dog, hyena, 336 tree species, and over 220 bird species. The terrain is moderate – ideal for those wanting an immersive bush experience without extreme physical challenge.

Where You’ll Stay
Guests stay at Tomo Safari Lodge, a charming retreat of seven thatched chalets with en-suite bathrooms. Communal spaces overlook the lodge’s private waterhole, with views of the Drakensberg mountains, and each chalet offers a tub and shower, ceiling fan and AC, Wi-Fi, and all the comforts for a relaxing safari stay.
For the second part of the safari, explore 5,000 hectares of wilderness along 8 km of the Olifants River in northern Balule. Wildlife thrives here amid bushveld and riverine habitats. Accommodation is at Amava River Lodge, an intimate camp of five modern safari tents perched on the riverbank. With excellent cuisine, wildlife at your doorstep, and a stylish, digital-detox–friendly setting, Amava offers a serene and immersive bush experience.

Is the bush sleep-out included?
Yes, it's included as an optional activity on Day 2. Weather-dependent and may be cancelled last-minute due to rain or unsafe conditions.
What if I don't want to do the sleep-out?
No problem. You'll return to the lodge for the night while others sleep out. It's entirely optional.
Can I extend this safari?
Yes. We can customise the itinerary to add more days or combine with other reserves. Get in touch to discuss.
Is this suitable for solo travellers?
Yes, but a minimum of 2 guests is required for the safari to proceed. Solo travellers are welcome to join existing bookings.
What's the maximum group size?
